NEUROTRANSMITTERS RECTIFYING REMEDY Let's us understand the role of neurotransmitters in our body! First, what is neurotransmitter? A neuron is a specialized nerve cell that helps in receives, processes, and transmits information to other cells in the body. A neurotransmitter is a chemical messengers released by a neuron that either amplifies or inhibits the transmission of signals between neurons. TYPES OF NEUROTRANSMITTERS In our body, there are different types of neurotransmitters. Each of them have their own important roles in our body. Firstly is acetylcholine. Acetylcholine helps us transmit signals between motor nerves and skeletal muscles. It also helps us in the contraction of cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscles. Acetylcholine also helps in control motivation, arousal, and attention. Deficiency and rise in acetylcholine levels, may causing many diseases and also toxic effects. Next is dopamine. Dopamine helps us to control the brain's reward and pleasure centers. It also helps in control movement. Deficiency in dopamine levels may causing movements become delayed and uncoordinated. While dopamine excess certain levels, the brain causes the body to make unnecessary movements. Dopamine also helps in focus and attention. Low dopamine levels may causing social anxiety, social phobia or even some features of negative schizophrenia. Increasing dopamine levels may causing bipolar. Moreover is serotonin. Serotonin will brings impacts to our emotions and motor skills, it is a natural mood stabilizer. Serotonin helps in reduce depression, regulate anxiety, happiness and mood, and heal wounds. Low serotonin levels associated with depression, anxiety and insomnia, and increased serotonin levels will decrease arousal. Normal levels of serotonin, we will feel happier, calmer, more focused, less anxious and more emotionally stable. Further more is gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABA will helps us slow the anxiety-inducing signals down, reducing overwhelming feelings of anxiety and promoting a feeling of calm and relaxation. When GABA not working, anxiety and depression will increase. GABA have a significant role in disorders from depression and anxiety to schizophrenia and autism when balancing act with glutamate. Next is norepinephrine. Norepinephrine released in response to stress, controlling the body’s “fight or flight” response. When chemical imbalances may be associated with the development of anxiety and other issues related to mood. Norepinephrine have an important roles in attention and focus. Low norepinephrine levels may contribute to attention deficit hyperactivity and Alzheimer’s disease. Abnormal norepinephrine levels may linked to a disinterested mood, panic, exhaustion and hyperactivity. Besides that is endorphins. Stress and pain are the two most common factors leading to the release of endorphins. It helps reduce our perception of pain and enhance our pleasure. With high endorphin levels, we feel less pain and fewer negative effects of stress. However, lack of endorphins may be responsible for certain forms of mental illness such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, clinical depression or sudden shifts in emotions . Not only that, is histamine. Histamine helps regulate important brain functions such as alertness, attention, learning, memory, stress response, sleep-wake cycles, and sexual function. Symptoms like hyperactivity, obsessive-compulsive behaviour, panic, anxiety, and depression are often observed among those who suffer from histamine imbalance. Lastly is epinephrine (adrenaline). When strong emotions, in particular fear and anger, will cause epinephrine to be secreted into the bloodstream which increases heart rate, strength, blood pressure, and metabolism. This is commonly known as the Fight or Flight response - it is our body preparing ourselves for activity. WHAT CAUSING NEUROTRANSMITTERS IMBALANCE? Firstly is our daily diet. Sugar and caffeine, white flour and other refined junk food are the foods that causing neurotransmitters imbalance. A diet that is low in protein or high in complex carbohydrates is also a major contributor. Next is alcohol, mind-altering drugs and nicotine. The use of drugs and alcohol cause neurotransmitter depletion as they overstimulate them to the point that the brain stops producing them. Besides that is our environmental toxins. Common everyday chemicals found in most people’s homes like perfume, cleaning supplies, air fresheners, nail polish, laundry soap, fabric softener, clothing etc., have a serious impact on neurotransmitters, because they can land on receptors or inhibit production. Moreover is chronic stress. High levels of ongoing stress also cause malfunctioning and depletion of neurotransmitters. Our genetics also one of the factors that causing neurotransmitters imbalance. Some people are born without certain enzymes that are needed to synthesize neurotransmitters which results in deficiencies or disruption of neurotransmitters. Lastly is sleep disturbance.
